Certain foreign nationals are exempted from the study permit, if they are:

• Minor children inside Canada.
• Family members and members of the private staff of accredited foreign representatives.
• Members of the armed forces of a country designated for the purpose of the Visiting Forces Act.
• Students of short-term courses “6 months’ duration or less”.
• Students of English/French course.
• Registered Indians.
